Georgia Bulldogs women's assistant Carol Capitani has been offered and accepted the head coaching position for the University of Texas, sources with close connections to the team are reporting. The move is expected to be announced on Friday.

The position was vacated after Kim Brackin was removed from the position just under three weeks ago.

Capitani has no obvious ties to the state of Texas, but has a long, successful coaching career that includes a decade under Jack Bauerle at the University of Georgia. After last season, she was promoted to “Associate Head Coach”. She had a previous coaching stop at Villanova, as well (where she earned her Masters Degree).

She has worked predominantly with the women's program, that has accumulated nine top-10 finishes in her ten seasons there. She has also been on more than one international  staff, including as an assistant on the 2005 US World University Games Team.

Capitani, who like her predecessor comes to the program as a top assistant without major head-coaching experience, is a 1991 graduate from Cal. As a student-athlete, she won 8 All-American Awards.

We haven't heard official word on the transfers that have been talked about, but the Longhorns should return some strong pieces for Capitani to work with. That includes breaststroker Laura Sogar, as well as a very good group of sprinters.
