Sprint News 5/20/12: Dunfords Move; Alabama Retains One Assistant; Connolly Gets Big Honor

…New Alabama head coach Dennis Pursley has begun to round out his coaching staff by announcing that he will retain 5-year assistant James Barber. Barber works predominantly with the distance and stroke groups in Tuscaloosa. Like Pursley, Barber has experience working with the US National Team, as during the 90′s he worked as a member of the US National Team Resident coaching staff (under Jonty Skinner, who is a good friend of Pursley's, a fellow Alabama alum, and who has been in the UK working under Pursley's National Team regime). There still should be several openings on the staff to fill in the coming weeks…

…Tennessee's Jenny Connolly was named the Tennessee Amateur Female Athlete of the Year for 2012 after winning four SEC Titles during her senior season: 100 fly, 100 back, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay…

…Jason and David Dunford followed their longtime coach Skip Kenney out-the-door at Stanford and are now overseas training with the ADN Swim Project in Italy, led by Italian coach Andrea di Nino, who had a previous stop working with the Coral Springs Swim Team in Florida. Among their new training partners are Russian Olympians Evgeny Korotyshkin and Sergey Fesikov. …the “Springs” is getting crowded, as the elite training group from FAST has joined the Cal men and Michael Phelps' North Baltimore club at the Olympic Training Center. The Fullerton group isn't as big as it once was, but does include stars like Tyler Clary, Michael Klueh, Emily Brunemann, and Michael Klueh
